The Montien Hotel Bangkok

For the past 40 years, the Montien Hotel has been known amongst Bangkok’s business and leisure travellers for its excellent portrayal of traditional Thai hospitality. All 475 rooms and suites are adorned in traditional Thai style, including useful amenities.

With the high spirits of the traditionally dressed staff who efficiently assisted me through the check-in process, it’s was easy to see why Thailand hails itself as the ‘Land Of Smiles’. The Montien rooms still don’t feature keycards but remain with the ordinary door key attached to a unique bell-keychain which, thankfully, will open room's door regardless of whether it has been placed by your mobile phone or credit card.

Enjoying a prime location, the Montien is situated on Surawong Road running parallel to Silom Road. Approximately ten minutes walk from Sam Yan, Silom MRT and Sala Daeng BTS stations. While Silom, one of Bangkok’s business and night entertainment hubs can be easily accessed by foot through the Taniya and Patpong Streets.

A short distance from the area is the Chao Phraya River- just three stations away (Saphan Taksin BTS) while main shopping malls like Siam Paragon, Central World, Siam Discovery, Siam Centre, MBK, and Siam Square are only five minutes (National Stadium, Siam, and Chidlom BTS) via Skytrain.

The Montien Hotel Bangkok has a wide range of room types on offer, ranging from Superior and Executive Rooms (34sqm), Deluxe and Executive Deluxe (56sqm), to the glorious Junior Suite (70sqm) and Imperial Suite (258sqm) Although all interiors are set in a classic Thai theme, the bigger the space the better treats one will have in store – luxury resides in space, after all.

Once inside, teakwood furnishings feature and traditional handicraft-textiles grace the walls, a huge white bed adorned with several intricate cushions in different sizes and shapes will leave guests pining to shut their eyes for a few hours and relax in the comfort of the soft cotton sheets and fluffy pillows.

Fresh tropical Thai fruits are served in a traditional basket as compliments of the hotel, while a double floor-to-ceiling window with mini balcony enjoys pool views, to be enjoyed over a morning coffee or evening beverage.

All guestrooms and suites are fully equipped with standard amenities like television with international and pay-per-view channels, bathroom amenities and hairdryer, electric safety box, working desk with internet access (chargeable per hour), daily English or Japanese newspapers, and the use of the fitness centre and sauna. As mentioned, the bigger the space the better the room experience one is likely to get. Additional services like: private check-in, 20% discount at business centre, late check-out until 18:00 hours and more come with executive rooms and suites guests.

An oasis for food and beverage lovers, the Montien Hotel Bangkok hosts seven restaurants and bars, open from early morning until late evening, while room service is also available around the clock. Highlights start from the hotel lobby, Garden Lounge serving a vast menu of drinks complemented by live jazz. Club 54, a stylish and luxurious bar located on the lobby level of the South Wing, serving fine wine and other cool beverages. And last but not least, Jade Garden, offering a wide choice of Cantonese cuisine. A not-to-be-missed dish is Hainanese Chicken Rice, popular with both Bangkok’s residents and visitors

A fine pool and state-of-the-art fitness centre are available to all guests. The outdoor swimming pool on the third floor is a good spot for those who love splashing around or wishing to pick up a made-in-Bangkok tan. A sauna, hairdresser, and massage centre are at ‘Siam Onsen’, attached to the hotel, as well as convenience and souvenir stores situated both inside and outside Montien Plaza area.
